Thank you for joining us for Wall of Hands 2017- our annual campaign fighting to close the persistent and shameful Indigenous literacy gap.
For those of us who have never struggled with illiteracy, it is hard to grasp what life is like without the ability to read or write, and how many opportunities are missed.
Literacy truly impacts every aspect of your life, and in the words of Kofi Annan, former Secretary-General of the United Nations and Nobel Peace Prize winner…
“Literacy is a bridge from misery to hope. It is a bulwark against poverty, and a building block of development…a vehicle for the promotion of cultural and national identity. Especially for girls and women, it is an agent of family health and nutrition.
For everyone, everywhere, literacy is… the road to human progress and the means through which every man, woman and child can realise his or her full potential.”
All evidence tells us that literacy is one of the most important indicators of future health, wellbeing and prosperity. Literacy is the pathway to accessing education, successful employment and enjoying a healthy and happy life.
Let’s make this a reality for all Australian children.
With your support, we can empower Indigenous children to write a new chapter in their lives.
With thanks,
The ALNF team
