ALNF’s Literacy Is Freedom Gala A Huge Success

A host of Australian stars, including Adam Goodes, Jesinta Franklin and Joe Hildebrand, banded together for ALNF’s “Literacy is Freedom” Fundraising Gala on Friday May 18, standing with us on our mission to close the persistent and shameful literacy and education gap that exists between disadvantaged and advantaged students across Australia.

Using the #literacyisfreedom, ALNF’s campaign aims to shine a light on the devastating effects of illiteracy in Australia, and demonstrate how fundamental the ability to read, write and communicate is in the world we live in today.

ALNF Ambassador, TV personality, journalist and MC for the evening, Joe Hildebrand, is an avid supporter of ALNF, and believes that “literacy really is freedom – freedom from poverty and freedom to live the best life you can. I could not be prouder, nor more passionate in championing ALNF and the work they do. Its importance cannot be exaggerated. There is simply no better way to give people the tools they need so that we can build the world we want.”

Jesinta Franklin, ALNF Ambassador, stated, “I am so honoured to have been included in this year’s gala with ALNF. I am a big supporter of all of the incredible the work they do and the difference they are making in the lives of so many people. I am looking forward to spending the evening with the individuals who work tirelessly to bring the magic of the foundation to life.”

David Thomas, CEO of David Jones, the Gold Sponsor for the evening, said, “We are delighted to be a part of ALNF’s Literacy is Freedom fundraising event. It is such an important and worthy cause. ALNF’s dedication and commitment to working shoulder to shoulder with some of Australia’s most marginalised communities is impressive and worthy of all the support we can give. Their programs have real impact and we are proud to be aligned with this cause.”

The gala guest list also included Dame Marie Bashir, Professor Tom Calma AO, Jessica Rowe, Adam Spencer and Jessica Marais among other Australian personalities, as well as long term funders, donors and supporters.

All funds raised on the night will go towards our specialised literacy programs, which empower disadvantaged communities and children through education to be their own change-makers.
