You’re a part of this community

My name is Mary-Ruth. I am the co-founder of the ALNF, and a speech and language pathologist. My speciality is the reading, writing and comprehension process, and I oversee all of the program delivery in our Wall of Hands communities.

Thank you for your generous donations to Wall of Hands 2015! Because of you, we are on the way to our goal of $500,000.

Donate to Wall of Hands 2015 before 30 June. With your help, we can finish what we started. By donating, you’re playing an important part in closing the Indigenous literacy gap. The families I meet in every Wall of Hands community share the same deep desire that all parents have for their children – for them to be happy, healthy and reach their potential.

I remember when Tom*, a dad with young kids, came along to our ‘Pizza and Reading’ event. Initially, he was very nervous, thinking that his inability to read would be exposed. However, when we read picture books as a group, Tom showed himself to be an amazing natural storyteller! The barrier of shame that stopped him reading picture books to his preschooler son had been broken down. There is nothing quite like a curious child who is hungry to learn to inspire a whole community to bring about meaningful change.

Donate today to support families like Tom’s.

So far we have shared stories about how literacy gives children the foundation for an education- but more than that, about how it gives them confidence and hope.

By donating to Wall of Hands 2015, you are supporting our life-changing programs that are empowering families right around Australia. I am constantly inspired by the amazing people in our Wall of Hands communities. The ALNF brings the expertise and resources, but it is the communities that contribute the determination to succeed.
