ALNF board member, human rights advocate and Indigenous elder, Dr. Tom Calma, has been named ACT Australian of the Year.
Dr. Calma, the National Coordinator for Tackling Indigenous Smoking and former Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner, was instrumental in sparking the “Close the Gap” campaign through his 2005 landmark report which called for the 17-year life expectancy gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians to be closed.
Congratulations Dr. Calma!
