ALNF’s Literacy & Numeracy Pack program is driven by a fundamental goal at its core - to inspire literacy, numeracy and education with the right tools for learning.

The program equips children and young people in First Nations, refugee and marginalised communities with the vital learning supplies required, yet not often available, to be active participants in their own learning journey.

The packs are sourced, assembled and distributed to targeted communities across Australia, with a particular focus on rural and remote regions, including the APY Lands, Palm Island, Alice Springs, Taree and Kempsey, to name a few.

Available for preschool, primary school and high school students, each pack contains a carefully selected Share-A-Book, as well as age-appropriate literacy and numeracy resources such as plasticine for kinaesthetic and fine motor skill development for pre-schoolers, or maths sets and calculators for high school students, all packaged in a fun and re‐useable drawstring tote that also doubles up as a book bag.

Real changes are made to a child’s life when they are armed with the tools they need to improve their literacy and numeracy levels, and education outcomes.

The Literacy & Numeracy Pack program grew from ALNF's work on the ground in some of Australia's most marginalised communities.

One of the many challenges faced when implementing programs in these communities has been the lack of basic literacy and numeracy resources available to students. This presents a significant barrier in helping these children develop the necessary literacy and numeracy skills required of them to actively participate in their learning environment.

Rising to the challenge, these Literacy & Numeracy Packs boost student, parent and community engagement in the learning process by putting valuable literacy and numeracy resources within easy reach.

Importantly, the items found in each pack have been carefully selected to facilitate oral language, literacy, numeracy and cognitive stimulation for the whole family to participate in.
