In a world that’s saturated with content, literacy and numeracy are essential skills. Yet almost half of all Australians are functionally illiterate, and only 1/5 Indigenous children living in very remote communities can read to the minimum NAPLAN standard.
The consequences are serious. Illiteracy negatively impacts school and workplace success. Illiteracy takes away the ability to participate meaningfully in society and to be in control of decisions that directly affect our lives. Literacy helps people become self-reliant, and is a critical skill not only for prosperity but also for wellbeing.
That’s why we’re asking for your support. It is heartbreaking when communities ask for help and the only answer we can give is, “We will have to put you on our waiting list”. Thankfully, you don’t have to wait to give a child the gift of literacy. 100% of donations go directly to continuing our life-changing literacy programs in Wall of Hands communities.
