We are incredibly honoured to be finalists in the 2016 Google Impact Challenge for our Living First Language Project. Now we need your vote! VOTE NOW TO SAVE INDIGENOUS LANGUAGES Being able to read and write is a basic human right, and this includes the right to be literate in your Mother Tongue. Article 13 of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples reminds us of Australia’s international obligations: “Indigenous people have the right to revitalise, use, develop and transmit to future generations their histories, languages, oral traditions, philosophies, writing systems and literatures.” Immediate action is required in Australia. First Languages are disappearing at a faster rate than anywhere in the world despite a universal acknowledgment that language plays a vital role in the health, wellbeing, education and future of Indigenous peoples. Working collaboratively with First Language speakers and Indigenous community groups, we will develop a truly innovative digital solution allowing First Languages to become vibrant living literacy resources, empowering language speakers to be their own teachers. Your vote for the ALNF will help us protect, preserve and promote Indigenous languages and cultures. Stand with us to make the wishes of the elders a reality. Each vote brings us closer to transforming Indigenous languages in Australia. |
