We’re thrilled to announce that the Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation’s newest ambassador is Indigenous model and activist Nathan McGuire!
A proud Whadjuk Noongar man, Nathan has been outspoken about the urgent need for the Australian fashion industry to place Indigenous perspectives front and centre in discussions around diversity.
In his advocacy efforts, Nathan has said that “As Indigenous models, we’re proud of our heritage. It is important to us that we get to speak and own the space within fashion, where we decide on matters that affect us. That space must be reserved for us; our voices must be at the forefront.”
Nathan is committed to a diversity that extends beyond box-ticking to reflect genuine change in how organisations are structured. This aligns perfectly with ALNF’s foundational belief in the importance of working alongside, rather than for, marginalised communities to empower kids with literacy and language skills.
For both Nathan and ALNF, entrenching positive cultural shifts is the only way that progress can be made that is sustainable and long-lasting.
Nathan said, “I’m very excited to be an ambassador with ALNF. I have been so inspired by the many ways ALNF empower the next generation with access to literacy and numeracy. The work they do is incredible and I’m grateful for the opportunity to support such an amazing foundation.”
